hold the ropes

As a missionary, there is no story as singularly inspiring for me than the words of Andrew Fuller concerning his friend and fellow laborer, William Carey:

“We saw there was a gold mine in India, but it seemed almost as deep as the center of the earth. Who will venture to explore it? “I will go down.”, said Mr.Carey to his brethren, “but remember that you must hold the ropes.” We solemnly engaged to do so; nor while we live, shall we desert him.”

The great commission was given to the Church. Every member of the body is involved. Some pray, some give, some go. We need you to hold the ropes. We see this throughout the New Testament. Paul was sent out by the church in Antioch (Acts 13:2-3), supported financially by the church in Philippi (Phil 4:13) and prayed for by the church in Thessalonica ( 2Thes 3:1).
